(0 May 2017) SPCA_ThreeGuysSixDogs.jpgSanta Cruz SPCA Just three guys and their adoptable fur-iends hanging out in the shade on a beautiful day! Our lucky pups get to bound around on the beach and parade through the park every week because of our wonderful volunteers. During these outings, not only do the dogs have tons of fun, but they attract a lot of adoption attention/interest with those bright yellow adopt-me leash flags! An out of shelter field trip has led to more than a few forever homes :)

Wanna become a volunteer? We've got orientation dates open in June and July! Get yourself signed up online :)

Sparks are flying and romance is blossoming at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory! Handsome new superintendent, Sid Sorokin, is falling hard for Babe Williams, the feisty leader of the union grievance committee. That is, until she and the Sleep-Tite employees are refused a seven-and-a-half cent pay increase. This enduring favorite features plenty of fun and splashy production numbers, including a comic "dream ballet," and is a glowing example of a solid, classic musical production. It's a blend of romance, comedy, and catchy lyrics sure to entertain. The Pajama Game is anything but sleepy!

Savvy shoppers will be able to bag bargains at Santa Cruz Montessori's Spring Yard Sale
Date: 05/20/2017 from 8:00am to 2:00pm
Ages: all Admission Fees: free

Savvy shoppers will be able to bag bargains at Santa Cruz Montessori's Spring Yard Sale, scheduled for Saturday, May 20, 2017. Montessori parents are hosting the event at the school's main campus at 6230 Soquel Drive from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

All proceeds from the sale will go to support the school's financial aid program. "Fifty percent of our families receive scholarships to our school," says SCM Director Kim Saxton. "Santa Cruz Montessori is committed to supporting a diverse student body through its financial aid program - and our annual yard sale raises critical funds for this program."

Last year, the successful Spring Yard Sale raised much needed funds for the program. This year organizers are hoping to surpass last year's amount. In addition to high quality children's clothes and toys, shoppers will find a wide selection of strollers, bicycles, kitchen appliances, electronics, books, sporting goods, tools, furniture, men's and women's clothing - and one of-a-kind items.

For more information about the sale, or to donate items, call 831-476-1646. Santa Cruz Montessori is a non-profit school founded in 1964. It currently serves 290 students from preschool through junior high.

How do students know if Kirby is a good fit? A shadow day is an ideal way to find out
Date: Every Mon (Jan 2-May 29)

Shadow Day

How do students know if Kirby is a good fit? A shadow day is an ideal way to find out. We will pair your student with a student host with similar interests. Together they will experience a "day in the life" at Kirby. They will attend classes together, hang out with other Kirby students, and enjoy lunch with their host and some of their friends.

How it works:

  • Monday is our preferred shadow day because of our block schedule. However, a shadow day can be scheduled any day of the week.
  • Student shadows are treated to a hot lunch made fresh in our kitchen by our executive chef, Tracy Landry.
  • Schedule your shadow day through the Admissions Office. Call (831) 423-0658 ×202 or use the link below.

Mount Madonna School
A story of love, adventure, separation and an eventual joyous reunion, in an ancient allegory of the battle of good and evil
Date: Every day (Jun 9-Jun 11)
Ages: all Admission Fees: $25 - $40

"Ramayana!" the Mount Madonna School's "sword-and-sorcery" production now in its 39th year and featuring an original rock-n-roll score and magical characters who encounter danger and love, good versus evil, duty, heroic action and sacrifice, will have performances June 5 to 7 at the Mexican Heritage Theater here, according to a press release.

The story of the Ramayana, as first told by the poet Valmiki, has endured for 2600 years as one of the world's most widely-read classics. The Mount Madonna production focuses on a small part of the larger Hindu epic's story and tells the story of Prince Ram, who, banished from his homeland of Ayodhya, leaves with his wife Sita and brother Lakshman to seek a new home. On their journey, they encounter an array of colorful beings, including tribal folk and gentle forest animals, giants and wizards, heroic monkeys and bears, an enchanted golden deer, a kingdom of demons led by the evil 10-headed Lord Ravana, and a wild, fire-breathing dragon.

The show features a cast of some 200 student actors, ages 3 to 18, accompanied by a choir and adult musicians.

It is a story of love, adventure, separation and an eventual joyous reunion, in an ancient allegory of the battle of good and evil. The show is filled with exciting action, spectacular costuming and family humor. A rich performing arts tradition and integrated arts curriculum make MMS performances outstanding, said the release.

Performances: Friday-Saturday, June 9-10, 7:00pm; Sunday, June 11, 2:00pm.

All seats are reserved: $35-$40 adults/$25 children (18 and under).

Special Dress Circle includes special reception, backstage tour, VIP parking and intermission treats.
