(0 A January 2019) WetlandsDay2019.jpgWatsonville World Wetlands Day 2019

Please join us for our annual World Wetlands Day restoration and celebration event. We will gather at the Watsonville Nature Center at 30 Harkins Slough Road for a morning of volunteer planting, educational activities, food, music, prizes, and more. This is a free, bilingual, and family-friendly festivity.

Wetlands are critical ecosystems that provide our Watsonville community with valuable public health services and astounding recreational and wildlife viewing opportunities. They serve as a natural filter for cleaning our rainwater, offer a buffet for an abundance of local and migratory birds, and provide habitat for plant and mammal species.

See you there! Environmental restoration, music, education, food, prizes, games

Made in the Mountains
Artists line the sidewalks showing of their amazing crafts.
Date: The 3rd Sa of every month (Apr 21-Dec 15) from 1:00pm to 5:00pm
Admission Fees: free

(0 April 2018) MadeInMountains2018.jpgIt's back!! The sidewalks will be filled with art and crafts again on the 3rd Saturday of the month. And we're adding music to the event! So, come out, enjoy the incredible spring weather and load up on art and joy!

I can't wait to see what creativity the winter months brought out in all of the artists' work!

We're continuing the "Spend $50, get $100" game, too! The Boulder Bucks program works like this - if you spend $50 or more at any local business during the Made in the Mountains event (buying groceries, getting a mani/pedi, buying pizza for the kids' baseball team, .... ) just take your receipt to Emelia at Air & Fire before the event is over. Your name will be added to the drawing that will happen within the week after the event. You could be the one that wins $100 in the form of a gift certificate to spend at a local business of your choice! You can also split the $100 into 2 gift certificates to different businesses.

So, getting the kids pizza could turn into a free necklace for yourself! Or the tools bought at the hardware store could get you a free mani/pedi for after the yardwork is done and some Chinese food for dinner! Nice, right!?

See ya out there!

(0 March 2018) SaveOurShores-PhotoContest.jpgGet excited about our 3rd annual Waves and Wildlife photo competition! We'll start accepting entries THIS Sunday, April 1 and will continue to do so until Thursday, May 31.

Each year, Save Our Shores encourages amateur photographers to submit their best shots from state marine protected areas (MPAs) along the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary to our Waves and Wildlife competition. The best images are then displayed in a month-long exhibit at the Sanctuary Exploration Center. Save Our Shores aims to raise awareness and appreciation of our local marine protected areas by highlighting these locations and the amazing wildlife and ecosystems within them. Below are some of our top submissions from the 2017 Waves and Wildlife photo competition.

Winners will be announced in mid-June and the best photos will be displayed throughout July in an exhibit at the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Exploration Center - Unofficial!

Go to saveourshores.org/wavesandwildlife to learn more about the #wavesandwildlife competition!
