River Health Day
Volunteer and make a difference in the San Lorenzo River ecosystem!
The 2nd Sa of every month (Jul 23-Dec 8) from 9:30am to 12:30pm
Location: Santa Cruz Riverwalk, 107 Dakota Ave., Santa Cruz Map

Every second Saturday of the month you can join the Coastal Watershed Council in improving habitat conditions along the lower San Lorenzo River.

During these River Health Days, we will be planting and watering beneficial native seedlings, as well as removing invasive plants along the river to improve biodiversity and habitat complexity.

Events occur along the banks of the lower San Lorenzo River near the Santa Cruz Riverwalk. Equipment, gloves and refreshments are provided.

All ages and abilities welcome. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Hands-on science activities for all ages

(0 A May 2018) SCCS-TedTalks.jpgWe are so proud to announce that our eldest students (4th-6th grade) will be performing their SCCS TED-Ed Talks at UCSC in Marine Sciences B206.


The lineup includes multimedia presentations on such diverse concepts as apitherapy, the science behind smiles, what's really in your neighbor's fast food, self-driving cars, black holes, rabies, intriguing international borders, slime, the ramifications of privatized fishing, can we live on Mars, the science behind mythconceptions (sorry Henry), and whether you can even be sure that you exist!


In addition to the talks at this FREE event, there will be hands-on science activities for all ages as well as food. Please join us and support the next generation of scientists with your sense of wonder.

(0 A May 2018) DelaveagaCarnival_ArielleBerger.jpgDeLaveaga Elementary School is hosting its Spring Carnival on Friday, June 1 from 4-8p.m. All community members are welcome to this annual fundraiser.

The all-ages carnival will feature games, karaoke, live performances, bounce house, Z-Balls, dunk tank, face painting, fairies and more.

Food will include tacos, burritos, tamales, pozole, corn on the cob, BBQ, pizza, popcorn, cotton candy and more.

An art auction will feature class projects, as well as pieces donated by local artists.

This year, the fundraiser will include an online auction featuring dozens of valuable items including Disneyland tickets. View items at

Several DeLaveaga families are sponsoring the event. Gold sponsors of the carnival include: Childish, Aimee & Angel Garcia of Bailey Properties, Ohana Gymnastics and Bogner Sheet Metal.

On this day we welcome the special friends and grandparents of our middle and high school students. 
This presentation is an opportunity to hear our 11th and 12th grade students speak about their recent experiences in Washington, D.C., and will feature the skilled videography of Devin Kumar ('06), adding visual spice to the students' narratives.
