Conversations for Change Tackles Power

Conversations for Change are designed to foster greater understanding among individuals who may have different viewpoints.

 

Project Connect and the Santa Cruz Public Libraries invite you to explore "Power:  Responsibilities, Misunderstandings & Assumptions." 

 

In a nation with differing experiences or perceptions about power and the abuse of power, how do we navigate situations where there is a potential for misunderstandings?  This Conversation for Change will deal with unequal status, privilege and power, and the ways we deal with the differences. 

 

Participants in these small group conversations, guided by a trained host, practice being open and curious about all perspectives, with a focus on learning from one another. The discussions are free, but registration and review of the conversation agreements is required. Intensive 3-week Positive Discipline Parenting Class Series for Children of All Ages

This intensive 3-week (6-hour) class series provides parents with all the concepts and tools needed to implement Positive Discipline in the home/family setting.

 

Some of the prominent themes include child and adolescent brain development, social emotional learning, belonging and significance as innate social needs, the essential nature of long-term positive parent-child relationships, mutual respect, modeling behaviors, authoritative parenting styles that use kindness and firmness at the same time, connection before correction, the criteria for effective discipline, agreements and follow-through, non-violent communication, family meetings, routines, and the internal locus of control that guides parents and children alike to practice self-regulation.

Facilitated by Colleen Murphy, Certified Positive Discipline Trainer, ECE co-op teacher with over 16 years of ECE teaching experience both with children and as a parent educator.
