Scotts Valley Farmers Market
Join us for a flurry of activities for kids and adults alike.
Date: 08/31/2019 from 2:30pm to 6:30pm

(0 A August 2019) ApplePress3.jpgOnce again your local farmers' markets bring Apple-A-Day, a celebration honoring the APPLE in all its beauty. Now a tradition of the mountain town markets, this event has been a hit since we first launched it in 2017.

Join us at the Scotts Valley Market on August 31st from 9am-1pm and at the Felton Market on September 17th from 2:30-6:30pm. Woo hoo!

We're all familiar with the age-old wisdom that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Apples grow all over Santa Cruz County and are delicious, hardy and loved for endless reasons. During the standard market hours these free events hosts a flurry of activities for kids and adults alike. Make it to one or both - definitely don't miss it!

KERMIT the bicycle, book-mobile from the Santa Cruz Public Libraries offers an apple scavenger hunt - learn foodie facts, talk to farmers and win a basket of strawberries. Mountain Feed and Farm Supply joins us for a DIY workshop making applesauce - learn how to do it and then make it home with local, organic apples. Santa Cruz Cider runs an apple press station. Make some fresh cider yourself by turning the crank and walk away with a taste of this sweet, thirst quenching drink. They'll also be offering a hard cider tasting - something for everyone. Live music sets the mood while a face painter brings a smile to the faces of little ones and vendors sell their apple harvest for a $1.50 a pound. All of this in addition to the standard joys of the Scotts Valley and Felton farmers' markets: grocery shopping, the company of neighbors and friends, a sunny day outside, tables stacked high with everything that is good and in season. Do it right now, put the Apple-A-Day Festival on your calendar: August 31st at the Scotts Valley Market, September 17th at the Felton Market.

Market Match

Market Match offers farmers' market customers a dollar-for-dollar match up to $10 on their CalFresh (food stamp) cards at the Live Oak Market. If a customer swipes their CalFresh card for seven dollars, they get seven dollars in Market Match tokens for free. Swipe $10, you get $10. The goal of this project is to encourage CalFresh (EBT/SNAP) recipients to take advantage of fresh, locally-grown fruits and vegetables. By offering an incentive that lowers the price of fresh produce, we are helping shoppers stretch their food dollars while keeping their families healthy. SCCFM will be offering the Market Match program for the 2018 season. Locate the information booth and the market manager to redeem EBT coins and to participate in the Market Match Program.
