Woodies on the Wharf
More than 200 stylish, pre-1952 wood-bodied cars. Plus music, woodie goodies, prize drawings and a parade!
Every day (Jun 21-Jun 23) from 10:00am to 4:00pm

(0 April 2018) woodies.jpgEras can often be define by their popular cars. What would the 2000s be without the Hummer, the 80s without sports cars, the 60s without VW Vans?  This is the time of year when Santa Cruzans honor the iconic cars of the pre-60s decades. That's right, it's time for another Woodies on the Wharf event.

Saturday, 10:00 am to 3:30 pm - 25th Annual Woodies on the Wharf

Woodies start rolling onto the Wharf early Saturday morning and are greeted by SCWC members with registration packets and welcoming goodie bags. NO PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Activities throughout the day include music; merchandise sales; raffles for 100's of prizes including beach bikes and surfboards (90 percent of raffle proceeds go to worthy charities); not to mention wandering the wharf, checking out all the woodies; and visiting the Wharf merchants and restaurants! One of the big hits of the day is the surfboard shaping demonstration by famed Hall of Fame shaper Floyd Smith of Gordon & Smith Surfboards; so, be sure to drop by Floyd's shaping bay to watch him work his magic! This year, as a special treat, come to the raffle area at around noon to enjoy a Hula Show presented by Mehana Thomas' Hula Troop Kuhai Halau O Mehana Pa ‘Olapa Kahiko.

Dog owners should be aware that dogs are not permitted on the wharf.

3:30 p.m. - The Parade off the Wharf

One of the highlights of the day is the Woodie Parade off the Wharf which begins promptly at 3:30 p.m. If you drove your woodie, please make sure to check your registration packets for parade instructions, and to follow the directions of the folks in orange vests so that you can help make this an enjoyable and hassle-free parade for everyone

Parenting evokes a full spectrum of emotions with higher intensity than many other experiences. Knowing how to deal with the intensity of these emotions both personally and with your kids can be difficult and challenging to navigate.

Wouldn't it be satisfying to connect rather than ignore, react, or pretend with your kids. Becoming the CEO of your reactions provides you tools to authentically deepen and live in relationships filled with connection, love and understanding.

I am so inspired to teach after being nourished by all the faculty at 1440 Multiversity like Dan Siegel, Dr. Shefali, a Brene Brown trainer, Liz Gilbert and Cheryl Strayed plus so many more.

I have also practiced my own 5 Steps to Connect during challenging times at work with my attachments to 'doing well', competency, striving to be superwoman, keeping an impossible amount of balls in the air, and being a learner instead of 'the knowing' one. As you can imagine it has triggered all my stuff. Of course then there is home life with teens, attitude, setting boundaries (which I am terrible at and gives me stomach aches), all with my husband which just adds another layer.

This work isn't easy, but it is Life Enriching and so worthwhile!

Come learn in community.

Allison is a mother of two teenage daughters. She is a conflict resolution mediator, a workshop leader and works at 1440 Multiversity. She started this work in 2005 when she was seeking a better way to relate to her oldest, spirited child, who was then four.

Navigating the School Years with Positive Discipline

What: This 7-week (14-hour) parenting class series is tailored specifically for parents of school-age children and provides parents with all the concepts and tools needed to implement Positive Discipline in the home/family setting.  Some of the prominent themes include child brain development, social emotional learning, belonging and significance as innate social needs, the essential nature of long-term positive parent-child relationships, mutual respect, modeling behaviors, authoritative parenting styles that use kindness and firmness at the same time, connection before correction, the criteria for effective discipline, agreements and follow-through, non-violent communication, family meetings, routines, and the internal locus of control that guides parents and children alike to practice self-regulation. Parents have commented that the experiential activities help them better get into their children's world and connect with them on deeper levels!
