Shop local and help your community prosper!

Small Business Saturday is a day to show your support for local, independent businesses by making purchases at your favorite small businesses. By shopping with locally owned, independent businesses, you make a much greater positive impact on the local economy than when you shop online or in big chain stores.

The Gardens of Castle Rock
Sundays in September at 9:00am
Castle Rock is home to many monuments. While the amazing and timeless rocks tower above, the unsung heros of this park dig their roots deep into the soil and gently support everything growing and existing here. Come learn about the amazing variety of plants here, how they've been naturally tended over millions of years, and how they help the land as well as how they've supported the people of the past. Hike meets in the day use parking lot off of Highway 35. No water is available in the park; bring plenty of water and snacks for yourself. Please wear appropriate footwear for hiking (I.e. no flip-flops, high-heels, or shoes without significant tread).

Monterey State Historic Park
Date: Every Su, Mon, Fri and Sa from 10:00am to 4:00pm

It took a lot of donated cash, but Monterey's historic adobes are open to the public once more.

The Monterey State Historic Park adobes in downtown Monterey were largely closed to the public, along with walking tours, starting in 2007 because of budget cuts.

The tours will consist of the Custom House and its plaza, Pacific House Museum and First Brick House.

The adobes will be open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday holidays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Custom House was the primary port of entry on the Alta California coast and the spot where the American flag was raised in 1846, claiming the land for the United States. At one time, the Custom House presided over Mexico's primary port of entry on the Alta California coast. It was here that Commodore John Drake Sloat raised the American flag in July 1846, claiming over 600,000 square miles of territory for the United States. This territory later was included in all or portions of the states of Utah, Colorado, Arizona, California and New Mexico.

This building is recognized as the oldest government building in California. It is State Historic Landmark #1.

It is $3 for the combined admission to Custom House and Pacific House. Walking tours, which last 50 minutes, are $5. Children 12 and younger are free.
