Choo, Choo, Santa Claus is coming to town, not by sleigh, not by snow but by Train!

Vintage excursion cars, adorned with thousands of colorful lights, roll through the streets of Santa Cruz as passengers lend their voices to holiday carols, sip hot spiced cider and listen to musical entertainment while Santa visits the little ones, or the young at heart! Continue the merriment with a $6 MyBoardwalk card good for attractions, arcades and games in Neptune's Kingdom. Bring the whole family for festive fun. Happy Holidays!

 

Dear Santa Letter Download here - Print out your letter to Santa Claus and have Roaring Camp Deliver it by train to the North Pole. Write your letter and bring it with you to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, there will be a North Pole mailbox just outside of the entrance to Neptune's Kingdom by the first car of the train. Roaring Camp will be making a special trip each evening after the Holiday Lights Train to drop off your letters to Santa's Home in the North Pole.

 

Start a new holiday tradition! Gather your family and friends and celebrate Santa Cruz style with ice skating at the beach! See the new Main Entrance Plaza transformed into a winter wonderland with ice skating, rides, games, festive foods and more!

San Juan Bautista State Park
Bring the family and enjoy our 1st Saturday Living History Days
Date: The 1st Sa of every month from 11:00am to 4:00pm
Admission Fees: The cost for entrance to the museum, stables and buildings is only $3 each for anyone over 16 .

Living History Days, 1st Saturdays

Step back to the early days of San Juan and meet mountain men, Civil War soldiers, Victorian ladies, and more. (Even One-Eyed Charley has been spotted a few times.) Watch games, crafts and cooking demonstrations. Enjoy an old-fashioned soda in the historic Plaza Hotel Saloon. See historic horse-drawn vehicles inside the Plaza Stables as well as Victorian furnishings in the Plaza Hotel and Zanetta family home.

There is much to do and see for FREE.
The cost for entrance to the museum, stables and buildings is only $3 each for anyone over 16 years of age. (So kids are FREE.)

 

The park includes several structures built in the 1800s. The four main historic museums are the Plaza Hotel, the Zanetta House/Plaza Hall, the Plaza Stables, and the newly reopened Castro-Breen Adobe. Many of the interiors are arranged as furnished vignettes or with colorful and informative exhibits that help create a unique learning environment for people of all ages. The park also features a blacksmith shop, theh istoric jail, and an early American settler’s cabin.

 

Tours
The park is open Tuesday through Sunday for self guided visits and also offers guided walking tours by advanced reservation. The park is closed on Mondays. Call 831-623-2753 for information.

Great introduction to the Reserve

Volunteer-led tours of the Reserve are held every Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

There is also an early birding walk the first Saturday of every month at 8:30 a.m.

 

All tours meet at the Visitor Center, rain or shine. No notice or reservations are needed for groups of under six people. There is no additional fee for tours.

 

Ongoing public events at the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve (ESNERR).

  • Tours of the Reserve - Join knowledgeable docents on a tour of the Reserve every Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm.
  • Early Bird Tour - A special birding tour of the Reserve, the first Saturday of the month at 8:30am.
  • Slow and Easy Tour - A special tour to the overlook at 2:00pm. 831-728-2822
  • NEW! Volunteer Land Stewards: EVERY WEDNESDAY at 10 AM except holidays. Join a group of hands-on land stewards as we care for sites around the Slough. New volunteers should contact questionsforus@elkhornslough.org in advance to receive updated event information. Projects and sites change weekly, RSVPs requested from all volunteers. Gloves, tools, and light snacks provided. Call 728-2822 with questions.

Regular Reserve and Visitor Center hours: Wednesday - Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Reserve and Visitor Center are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. When the Reserve is closed you cannot access the trails, restrooms, visitor center, or bookstore.
