Featured Events:

River Health Day
Volunteer and make a difference in the San Lorenzo River ecosystem!
The 2nd Sa of every month (Jul 23-Dec 8) from 9:30am to 12:30pm
Location: Santa Cruz Riverwalk, 107 Dakota Ave., Santa Cruz Map

Every second Saturday of the month you can join the Coastal Watershed Council in improving habitat conditions along the lower San Lorenzo River.

During these River Health Days, we will be planting and watering beneficial native seedlings, as well as removing invasive plants along the river to improve biodiversity and habitat complexity.

Events occur along the banks of the lower San Lorenzo River near the Santa Cruz Riverwalk. Equipment, gloves and refreshments are provided.

All ages and abilities welcome. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Butano SP Campfire Programs, Every Saturday, from 7:30 to 8:45pm

Come join us for campfire food, songs, games, and trivia, followed by a short slideshow presentation on some of the features of the park. See detailed program in the Friends of Butano State Park blog, facebook page, or at the park exhibits. Meet at the Campfire Center. Butano State Park, 1500 Cloverdale Rd., Pescadero. Campfires at Little Basin, All Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays in July at 7pm

Come learn about Little Basin's unique history, natural environment, and culture. Be ready to sing some fun songs and hear some interesting facts about Little Basin. Little Basin, 21700 Little Basin Road, Boulder Creek. 338-8018

 

Big Basin Afternoon Campfire Program, Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30pm

Drop by anytime between 4:30-5:30 pm at our historic campfire and enjoy roasting ranger apples, music and crafts! Touch and learn about the skulls and pelts of Big Basin animals.

 

Evening Campfire Program at Big Basin, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 6:30pm

Join us in our historic campfire center for an evening of song and story. Serenade the glittering stars and learn about redwood ecology, creatures of the forest or stories of the park while relaxing in the shadows of the towering trees. Fire lighting and marshmallows (we provide the sticks and marshmallows!) at 6:30pm; program begins at 7pm. Wheelchair, stroller accessible. Good dogs welcome! Big Basin Redwoods State Park, Located 9 miles outside of Boulder Creek on Hwy 236. 338-8883

 

Portola Redwoods State Park Campfire, Every Friday and Saturday in July at 7pm

And Monday, July 28 at 7pm

Come enjoy marshmallows, the comforting warmth of our campfire, and have some fun with us! Some activities include (But are by no means limited to!) entertaining and educating slideshows about the unique and interesting features of our park, as well as sing-alongs, silly skits, and trivia. Program generally lasts around 1 hour. Meet at the Campfire Center. Portola Redwoods State Park. From Highway 35, turn west onto Alpine Road, go 3 miles, and turn onto Portola State Park Rd. Use low gear as both these roads are steep and winding (650) 948-9098

Lynda and Kids Backpack Project
Help us provide 200 backpacks to kids who need them
Date: Every day (Jul 1-Aug 15)


To date we have collected 274 backpacks and 231-$25 donations. So we need 226 more backpacks and 269-$25 donation by July 31 to reach this year's goal of providing 500 backpacks to low income/homeless youth in Santa Cruz County through various shelters and churches. We would like to say THANK YOU to all of you who have donated so far!

1.    Agile Monkey Pilates Backpack Collection - For the rest of the month of July, customers of Agile Monkey or the general public can drop off backpacks to the collection bin located at Agile Monkey in downtown Santa Cruz. http://www.agilemonkey.net/pages/community
