Monterey State Historic Park
Date: Every Su, Mon, Fri and Sa from 10:00am to 4:00pm

It took a lot of donated cash, but Monterey's historic adobes are open to the public once more.

The Monterey State Historic Park adobes in downtown Monterey were largely closed to the public, along with walking tours, starting in 2007 because of budget cuts.

The tours will consist of the Custom House and its plaza, Pacific House Museum and First Brick House.

The adobes will be open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday holidays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Custom House was the primary port of entry on the Alta California coast and the spot where the American flag was raised in 1846, claiming the land for the United States. At one time, the Custom House presided over Mexico's primary port of entry on the Alta California coast. It was here that Commodore John Drake Sloat raised the American flag in July 1846, claiming over 600,000 square miles of territory for the United States. This territory later was included in all or portions of the states of Utah, Colorado, Arizona, California and New Mexico.

This building is recognized as the oldest government building in California. It is State Historic Landmark #1.

It is $3 for the combined admission to Custom House and Pacific House. Walking tours, which last 50 minutes, are $5. Children 12 and younger are free.

Winchester Mystery House
Tour the rambling, mysterious mansion
Date: The 13th of every month from 6:30pm to 10:30pm
Ages: Teens and up Admission Fees: $30.00 - $49.00

Since her death, millions of people have visited her home and many report the sightings of ghosts. Was the house built solely as a monument to the dead or do the phantoms Sarah communed with in life, or perhaps Sarah herself, still lurk nightly in the maze-like corridors of the Winchester Mystery House?

The tradition of Sarah Winchester's bizarre legacy continues...

Tickets for special events are available in advance online.

Special 65 minute Flashlight Tours of the Winchester Mansion are given every Friday the 13th and on select evenings in October. You'll tour the rambling, mysterious mansion at night with only the moonlight, a souvenir flashlight, and your imagination to provide illumination through the bewildering maze of rooms and stairways. But watch your back, Sarah could be waiting around any turn. This is one open house you'll never forget.

With admission, also enjoy extra entertainment on the estate from awe-inspiring magicians, to balloon artists, to caricature illustrators! Entertainment varies per evening, all entertainment is included in the cost of your ticket - limited availability, first come, first served on items such as caricature art.

Due to the popularity of the Flashlight Tours, we highly recommend you purchase your tickets ahead of time. Friday the 13th tickets go on sale approximately 1 month in advance of the event. This event WILL sell out and when it does, tickets will not be available at Box Office on the night of the event.

In tribute to Mrs. Winchester's fascination with the number 13, celebrity "Bell Ringers" sound the old tower bell 13 times at 1300 hours every Friday the 13th.

The Santa Cruz County Teen Peer Court program provides positive prevention and educational opportunities that engage and empower youth. The teens are given hands-on experience with the legal process, become familiar with the court system, and have an opportunity positively impact young lives.

Teen Peer Court is a completely volunteer program and offers community service for participants and observers.  Observers receive three hours, teen attorneys receive 15 hours, jury members (chosen at random the night of the hearing) receive four hours, and the teen clerk and teen bailiff also receive four hours.  Community service verification forms are distributed to participants the night of the hearing. Classroom presentations are available.  Please contact me if you are interested in scheduling an informational presentation about Teen Peer Court.  Also, Teen Peer Court is written into the California Education Code -- participating students can receive credit and units from interested teachers.

Thank you for supporting and promoting the Teen Peer Court program.  Attached is a summary about Teen Peer Court, the Fall Teen Attorney Training as well as the 2014/2015 hearing schedule.  We look forward to providing this educational opportunity to the students of Santa Cruz County.

Take care,
