Climb Aboard the Train to Christmas Town

This holiday season, fall in love with the heartwarming tale of Janice, a little girl who looks forward to riding the Train to Christmas Town every year with her brother and Grandmother. This year is a little different though, as readers of the story already know. Accompanied by a bag full of surprises, woodland friends and jolly elves, Janice relives happy memories as she rides the train to Christmas Town once again.

The conductor will welcome you aboard and punch your ticket as you find your seat in warm, decorated cars. Meet Bumblebee the Polar Bear, Wabash the Squirrel, even Zephyr the depot cat and laugh along with Elves while they're busy serving cookies and cocoa, and leading guests in singing Christmas carols. Upon arrival at Christmas Town, Santa climbs on board and walks through the cars greeting each child with holiday cheer and his signature "Ho, Ho, Ho"!

City of Watsonville
Prepare early for stormy weather
Date: Every day (Oct 1-Apr 30)

With predictions of a wet winter here are some tips and resources to help you and your family prepare and stay safe.

Prepare: Maintain drainage channels and pipes on your property free of obstruction and debris. Keep an emergency supply with non-perishable food, water, manual can-opener, batteries, flashlights, battery-operated radio and a first-aid kit. Develop evacuation plans for your family.

Protect: If your property is in danger of flooding; sandbag areas where water may enter living spaces. Sandbags will be available at Fire station #1 located at 115 Second Street and at Home Depot. Come prepared to fill your own bags. If your property is in danger of flooding, contact PG&E to request that your power and natural gas be shut off. The City of Watsonville Emergency Operations will order evacuations if needed so listen to local commercial radio, television or social media. Seek shelter in the highest areas possible, avoid low-lying areas.

Pay Attention: After a flood, listen to the radio or check social media for emergency instructions. For your safety, avoid driving if possible and follow established procedures for property damage repairs. If repairs are needed, select a contractor who is licensed in his trade and is prepared to deal with post flood conditions.

Sign up for NIXLE messages for  critical emergencies: www.nixle.com register your email address or text your zip code 95076 to 888777 to register your phone.

Saratoga and the 1915 Pan Pacific Exposition-100 Year Centennial
Date: Every day
Ages: All

A new exhibit-Saratoga and the 1915 Pan Pacific Exposition-100 Year Centennial opens February 13 at the Saratoga History Museum.

The Panama-Pacific International Exposition (PPIE) was a world's fair held in San Francisco, in the United States, between February 20 and December 4 in 1915. The purpose was to celebrate the completion of the Panama Canal but the reality was to demonstrate that San Francisco had recovered from the 1906 earthquake.

The fair was constructed on a 635 site in San Francisco. It featured 11 Exhibit Palaces with over 40 countries and all the states participating. Among the exhibits at the Exposition was the C. P. Huntington, the first steam locomotive purchased by Southern Pacific Railroad; A telephone line was also established to New York so people across the continent could hear the Pacific Ocean. The Liberty Bell traveled by train on a nationwide tour from Pennsylvania to attend the exposition. Henry Ford had cars assembled every 10 minutes for 3 hours each day.

The exhibit will cover the PPIE exhibit and include information on Saratogans participating. The exhibit will run from February -June 26. Fair artifacts and ephemera will be on display.

Now in its 16th season, Fantasy of Lights continues to be the premier holiday lights spectacular in Northern California. The mostly animated larger-than-life displays, the special sounds of holiday music piped through your own car radio and the sights and sounds of an erupting Volcano in the dangerously fun Dinosaur Den, Santa Shooting Hoops, a pen of Playful Penguins, blazing Pirate Ship cannons, Tunnels of Lights, and winking, Twinkling Trees will have you "oohing and aahing" throughout the ride.  See all this and so much more!

(A Dec) Christmas_SantaandIceCreamBunny2.jpg"What a story!" This was the original studio tagline for Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny. You will have to ignore, of course, that Santa & the Ice Cream Bunny barely contains a story, let alone a coherent thought. But you'll be willing to let this pass, since it does contain pigs, gorilla suits, paper mache birds, soiled Santa costumes, pervy moles and, of course, an Ice Cream Bunny.

What is an Ice Cream Bunny? We're not quite sure, and the movie doesn't really bother to explain. Evidently he has a fire truck with an air raid siren, and lives at a place called Pirates World. We also know that we are strongly in favor of ceding all power to it and letting it enact whatever foul agenda it desires, just as long as it lets us take a ride through Pirates World in that sweet, sweet fire truck.

It's one of the strangest and most baffling pieces of outsider art that Mike, Kevin and Bill have ever riffed. Please join us in experiencing: Santa & the Ice Cream Bunny.
