Dali17 Museum
The exhibition will be the largest collection of Dali’s art on the West Coast and will feature over 300 originals.
Date: Every day

Special Instructions: Call for hours

Dali17 Museum is Open

(A July) Dali_TimeSlithering.jpgDali17 Museum will open to the public on Friday, July 8 at 10am!

The new museum is a permanent exhibition of original etchings, mixed media, lithographs, and rare sculptures by one of the twentieth century's most celebrated surrealist artists, Salvador Dali.

This is the first permanent Dali exhibition on the West Coast and the second largest private collection in the United States. Previously, this collection has only been exhibited in Spain and Belgium.

will feature over 300 originals. Did you know that Monterey was the only place in the United States where Dali lived and worked? The exhibition will reintroduce Dali’s local history and will be the only museum to showcase photographs from Dali’s fundraiser Surrealistic Night at Del Monte.

(A July) Dali.jpgMonterey was the only place in the United States where Dali lived and worked. While the Nazis stormed across Europe, Dali and his wife Gala fled to the U.S. and in July 1941 found refuge at the Hotel Del Monte. While living in the Monterey area, he was heavily involved with the arts. Dali exhibited vintage sourced photographs as an early member of the Carmel Art Association and every May he participated as a juror for the local high school art competition.

Marvin's most talked about invention is the Egg Vending Machine. Customers can come up to the ranch, insert money and receive a flat of eggs. As the years progressed, so did the vending machine - today, when you insert the money you get to enjoy an animated chicken show as well.

The costumes on the chicken show are designed, created and changed seasonally by Sherrie. Every season/holiday is a different scene - the customers love to come and see what's new each time.

The 2016 Monterey Bay Birding Festival, taking place September 23 - 25, 2016, will offer exciting new field trips, workshops, speakers, youth, and community events. The Festival's energetic Planning Committee has already hit the ground running to make this the best festival yet!

Detailed information for each of these positions is available so if you are interested in one of these or any other position, please send an email to montereybaybirdingfestival@gmail.com. It might seem daunting, but don't worry because you'll be working with a seasoned group of festival coordinators who will help make your area of responsibility a success. From a reviewer: 9/12/2016

"I've been to botanical gardens around the US and other countries, and this one is truly world class. I can't believe I've lived here for years and had never gone. I was worried that there might not be many things blooming since it's September, but there were so many amazing flowers packed together, that I can't even imagine what it's like in the spring. The ratio of plants-to-walking is really excellent. Every square foot of the garden seems carefully planned to pack in more wonderful things to see, all meticulously labeled and growing vigorously."

Save Our Shores
Help clean up Cowells Beach
Date: Every 2 weeks on Sa from 9:00am to 11:00am

We are so excited to be teaming up with Haley Mander for the Cleanup Cowells Project. This cleanup program is in it's second successful year!  These cleanups would not be possible without donations from the Dream Inn.

Make sure you bring a filled reusable water bottle, sunglasses and a hat as well. We want to make sure everyone is staying hydrated! Any participants under the age of 18 MUST be accompanied by an adult.

Cleanups happen RAIN OR SHINE! It is especially important to clean the beaches in the rainy weather, as all that trash is quickly getting washed into the Sanctuary!

Cleanups will run every other Sunday from 9-11am. Follow this successful program on Instagram (cleanupcowells)!

If you have any questions please contact cleanup@saveourshores.org.

Thank you for keeping our beaches clean and beautiful!

Come listen to gifted musicians!

Lesser Known Gems of the Great Composers
Music by Dvorak, Gershwin, and Rachmaninov

Saturday, October 29, 7:30 pm
Sunday, October 30, 3:00 pm

Roy Malan, Concert director and violin
Susan Freier Harrison, violin: Polly Malan, viola
Stephen Harrison, cello; Keisuke Nakogoshi, piano

This concert focuses on trio and quartet works by composers famous for music of other kinds.

In Dvorak's Terzetto, the intimacy of the string trio allows crystalline clarity to this work's soaring and interwoven melodic lines. Yet, the three instruments project strength and a richness of texture that rivals the composer's massive symphonic works.

George Gershwin's Lullaby for String Quartet is a world away from the large scale of his Rhapsody in Blue, An American in Paris, and Porgy and Bess. In mood, this gentle chamber piece is closer to some of the composer's sweeter-voiced show tunes and popular songs.

Both somber and passionate, Rachmaninov wrote his Piano Trio #2 (Élégiaque) in memory of Tchaikovsky, a major musical influence and beloved countryman. This virtuosic work displays elements familiar from his piano concertos.
