All aboard THE POLAR EXPRESSTM Train Ride! Believe the magic this holiday season!

PolarExpress-1019THE POLAR EXPRESSTM comes to the Santa Cruz Railroad for the first time, recreated to match all the sights and sounds of the beloved story.  Picture the excitement of children dressed in pajamas with golden tickets clutched in their hands as they board the train and prepare to embark on their journey to the North Pole.

The story begins when the Conductors calls "All aboard" and punches children's golden tickets. Little faces will peer out the train's windows as we pull out of the station on our way to the North Pole.  Each guests will hear the sounds of the motion picture soundtrack as the story reading begins and the book's characters come to life. Dancing chefs will serve hot cocoa and cookies to all riders in a merry fashion as the doubting hobo wanders through the train.

Polar_3_-_Canon_047_800The train stops where children will behold the magic of the North Pole from their warm train seats. With a jolly "Ho, ho, ho" Santa waves to everyone and climbs aboard where he will greet each child and present them with the iconic silver sleigh bell (only believers can hear its ringing). Christmas carols will be sung as we return back to the station after a memorable ride that sets the tone for the whole holiday season. Join us in this annual event sure to become one of your family's treasured traditions.

Now Santa Cruz has joined the jolly fun. The Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay Railroad is launching its first Polar Express-themed rides from the boardwalk next month, complete with caroling elves, dancing chefs, hot cocoa and, of course, Santa sightings.

Tickets for the train, which runs on selected dates Nov. 18-Dec. 23, start at $34 for kids and $44 for adults. Find details at santacruzthepolarexpressride.com.

Save Our Shores
Help clean up Cowells Beach
Date: Every 2 weeks on Sa from 9:00am to 11:00am

We are so excited to be teaming up with Haley Mander for the Cleanup Cowells Project. This cleanup program is in it's second successful year!  These cleanups would not be possible without donations from the Dream Inn.

Make sure you bring a filled reusable water bottle, sunglasses and a hat as well. We want to make sure everyone is staying hydrated! Any participants under the age of 18 MUST be accompanied by an adult.

Cleanups happen RAIN OR SHINE! It is especially important to clean the beaches in the rainy weather, as all that trash is quickly getting washed into the Sanctuary!

Cleanups will run every other Sunday from 9-11am. Follow this successful program on Instagram (cleanupcowells)!

If you have any questions please contact cleanup@saveourshores.org.

Thank you for keeping our beaches clean and beautiful!

Date: Every day

Special Instructions: Call for hours

Dali17 Museum is Open

(A July) Dali_TimeSlithering.jpgDali17 Museum will open to the public on Friday, July 8 at 10am!

The new museum is a permanent exhibition of original etchings, mixed media, lithographs, and rare sculptures by one of the twentieth century's most celebrated surrealist artists, Salvador Dali.

This is the first permanent Dali exhibition on the West Coast and the second largest private collection in the United States. Previously, this collection has only been exhibited in Spain and Belgium.

will feature over 300 originals. Did you know that Monterey was the only place in the United States where Dali lived and worked? The exhibition will reintroduce Dali’s local history and will be the only museum to showcase photographs from Dali’s fundraiser Surrealistic Night at Del Monte.

(A July) Dali.jpgMonterey was the only place in the United States where Dali lived and worked. While the Nazis stormed across Europe, Dali and his wife Gala fled to the U.S. and in July 1941 found refuge at the Hotel Del Monte. While living in the Monterey area, he was heavily involved with the arts. Dali exhibited vintage sourced photographs as an early member of the Carmel Art Association and every May he participated as a juror for the local high school art competition.

From a reviewer: 9/12/2016

"I've been to botanical gardens around the US and other countries, and this one is truly world class. I can't believe I've lived here for years and had never gone. I was worried that there might not be many things blooming since it's September, but there were so many amazing flowers packed together, that I can't even imagine what it's like in the spring. The ratio of plants-to-walking is really excellent. Every square foot of the garden seems carefully planned to pack in more wonderful things to see, all meticulously labeled and growing vigorously."
