Aptos is the second largest branch in the Library System. Aptos Branch Library has more than 62,000 items in its collection, including books, videos, books on tape, and CDs. Aptos receives approximately 127 periodical subscriptions. The online catalog provides access to the entire system. Magazine articles, many of them full-text, can also be searched online. Terminals to access the Internet are available. There is a separate children's room, as well as a room stocked with consumer information materials. Aptos has a meeting room available for use by community groups.

The Boulder Creek Branch is located in the redwoods just off Highway 9 in Boulder Creek. The 4600 square feet branch has a large collection of adult fiction, genre fiction and non-fiction, as well as books on tape. The children's room is home to the Anne Gulliver picture book collection, a large print juvenile fiction collection as well as a core collection of juvenile titles. At the Library you can access the Internet, search several library-purchased databases, and request items from other branch libraries.

Branciforte Library

Branciforte Branch is a very popular branch located on the east side of Santa Cruz, near Seabright Avenue. It has a collection of more than 55,000 items, including books, videos, and books on tape.Separate Internet access terminals are available for both children and adults. A Spanish language Internet terminal is available to those users whose primary language is Spanish. The branch includes a separate room for children's materials and sponsors a variety of children's programs.

Bright and cheery, Capitola Branch is the newest branch library. The 4,300 sq. feet library is located at the corner of Wharf Road and Clares Street. The Capitola Branch serves both adults and children with books, videos, books on tape, and a variety of magazine subscriptions. You can access the Library System's online catalog to look up and request items from any of our branch libraries. You can also look up magazine articles online (many of them with full text) and access the Internet.

The Central Branch is the largest of the Santa Cruz Public Library Branches. It is located across the street from the Santa Cruz City Hall and is one block off Pacific Avenue.


Central houses a collection of more than 233,000 items, including books, videos, compact discs, and books on tape. The branch receives more than 400 different magazines and subscribes to 30 newspapers--a dozen from out-of-town. As the largest branch, it includes several special collections which are unique among the SCPL branches: genealogy collection, sheet music collection, back files of many magazines, and newspapers on microfilm.

 

On the second floor is a fully-staffed young people's room with a separate collection of books and media for children and teens. The reference collection, on the main floor, is the largest among the branches with reference librarians available whenever the branch is open.

Felton Library

At 1,250 square feet, Felton is physically the smallest of the branches, except the Bookmobile. Despite its size, the library boasts a collection of more than 22,000 books, videos, books on tape, and other items. Items held by other branches in the system may be searched and requested through the online public access catalog. Felton receives approximately 47 periodical titles and has access to a searchable online database of magazine articles, many available in full-text. The branch also provides Internet access terminals to put "the world at your fingertips."

Garfield Park Library

Garfield Park Library is a small branch located on the west side of the City of Santa Cruz, in the area known as "The Circles." It serves all of the residents of its neighborhood, but its emphasis is on youth services. Home of the "Electronic Homework Center"that makes available word processing software, Internet access, SAT training programs, and educational games.

La Selva Beach Library is our southern-most branch. The 2,200 square foot branch houses a collection of books, videos, books on tape, and other items, including approximately 40 periodical titles. Internet access terminals are available for browsing the World Wide Web.

Live Oak Library

The newly remodeled Live Oak Branch opened to the public on January 17, 2006. It includes an adult reading room, a young adult room, a storytime area, and a homework center. The new building features Craftsman-Style design, public art, beautiful views of Corcoran Lagoon, and even a few elements from the old branch--such as the stained glass which hangs above the Reference Desks.

The Scotts Valley Library is 5300 square feet in a store front building in Kings Village Shopping Center (just behind Nob Hill and next door to the movie theatre).The collection has a wide variety of fiction and genre fiction, books on tape and videos, and a large magazine and newspaper selection. The nonfiction collection has a large selection of computer books, as well as financial and other general interest materials.Four computer teminals have Internet access for the general public, and four Homework Center computers provide educational games, encyclopedias and atlases, as well as word processing and Internet access. The Homework Center has limited access for adults, with after school hours reserved for students.
