Too Much Fun in Santa Cruz County!

One of the most enjoyable aspects of SantaCruzParent.com is finding programs, events, volunteer opportunities, services and entertainment for you.  There is something for every interest and age! Don't let your teens tell you there's nothing to do!  If it's not here, tell us!

For example, if your student in K-12 is interested in recycling and art, there's an upcoming contest t(BUILT IN) (Icons/Graphics) Art_paint_pallet.jpgo produce posters about recycling.   Winners' posters will turn up as art on our local recycling vehicles. Santa Cruz Recycles! Poster Contest, Deadline March 28

In the next few weeks, there's basketball for kids, professional ice skating to watch, spring soccer, the symphony for families, a book reading with a humorist, live big cats and photographs of the jungle, not to mention an exciting film festival about our earth, with a special section of award winning movies made by children.

Take a peek ahead to the March events. Click on Add to Planner when you like an event.  Then send it to your friends and yourself with an invitation to do something fun together!

Family Reading Event for Parents and Children

with Alan Katz,

Reading his New Book "Oops!"

Capitola Book Cafe March 7, 6:30pm

When a six-year old boy thinks like a grown man, they call him a child prodigy. But what’s the best way to describe a grown man who thinks like a six-year old boy? That’s the problem my wife faces every time she has to introduce me.

Hi, I'm Alan Katz.  Here I am enjoying Take Me Out of the(Site Photos) AlanKatzinTub.jpgBathtub. Good thing you didn't catch me reading Stinky Thinking!

As a print and television writer, I've majored in silliness for more than 25 years. During that time, I've written a whole bunch of  parody songs and other funny stuff, animated series  network specials, game shows, and I've created hundreds of comic books, trading cards and other special projects for kids and their parents.

But my proudest achievement is the brilliance of Simone, Andrew, Nathan, and David, the children my wonderful wife Rose and I “co-authored.” They have taken me to new heights of silliness, and the kids and their mom are the reason I'm a happy man.  We all live in Connecticut.
I’ll be at Book Café on Friday, March 7, 6:30 pm to make you laugh and sign your book. Please come with the whole family.

EarthVision 2008 will be held with a special screening for Act Locally on Earth Day in April. Award winning films will be screened at the Mello Center in Watsonville and at the Rio Theatre and the Veteran’s Memorial Hall in Santa Cruz. EarthVision will culminate with a celebration honoring the filmmakers and people on the front lines of the environmental movement.

Some highlights of the Kid's Power Hour are the Ride of the Mergansers, a heartwarming blend of natural history, humor, and suspense. You'll be entertained, (Site Photos) Merganzer.jpgeducated, and inspired - and leave with a newfound appreciation of the phrase 'leap of faith".  Alaska's Coolest Birds is narrated by 6-year-old Zachary who wonders about the many birds and the amazing things they do during their summer migration.  And, in River Lab, children living in Connecticut become budding ecologists as they learn about their river's ecosystem.
