(Site Photos) FlagandChild.jpg  Happy Memorial Day weekend!

We plan to stay home and spend time with family and friends,  walking the beaches, the sweet ones only we locals know about, gardening, barbecuing, swimming and maybe slip out early for a sale item that's on our list. For those of you staying in town, there's some great entertainment throughout the county: the annual Antique Plane Fly-in,  Blues Festival and Civil War Battle and Encampment.

(Icons/Graphics) CarFamilyVacation.jpg    If you're going out of town, check out our Travel with Kids page for tips and ideas on how you can make your trip more enjoyable.     Please use caution to keep you and your precious cargo safe!  The Drive for Life campaign has put out a report with some very real information on the "101 Deadliest Days on the Road" - the Saturday before Memorial Day through Labor Day. In this report you not only get the statistics and main causes of accidents, but also survival strategies. To view the complete report, click here.

(Icons/Graphics) VetPoppy.jpg    On Memorial Day there's a ceremony at Evergreen Cemetery in memory of soldiers who have served our nation. While you're out and about, if you see a veteran volunteer selling poppies, make a donation and wear it proudly! It helps disabled veterans.

Be safe and have fun!

Saturday, May 25, 9-10am The Queen of Fats,

Information for "Foodies"

Here’s a timely message from our friend Michael Olson of Food Chain Radio.  If you’ve never heard Michael and you like food and care about its source etc, “give a listen,”  1080AM.  This Saturday, Michael hosts Susan Allport, author of The Queen of Fats, for a conversation about one of the most seismic events in the history of agriculture– the loss of omega-3 fatty acids. Topics include the relationship of essential fatty acids and the seasons of the sun; why omega-3 fatty acids were removed from the western diet and the consequence of that loss; and what, if anything, can be done to return this essential nutrient to our diet without depleting the oceans of fish.
