Many Summer Opportunities

Available for Teens & Tweens!

(Site Photos) VolunteerTeenChildcare.jpg

Are Your Teens and Tweens thrilled to be out of school and just lolling around because they're too young to get a job or can't find a job and are too old to be in a summer camp?  Before they get bored or into trouble,  nudge them to do something good for someone who needs them.  Your reward will be a teen with expanded horizons, a sense of self-worth and even new skills!  Summer is a great time to volunteer.  We visited the website of the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County and found many places where youthful volunteers are appreciated, trained and put to work.(Site Photos) VolunteerTeenTrashPickup.jpg

The variety of opportunities is astounding. Time commitments can be one-time events, one day/week, daily, summer or ongoing.  There is something for almost every interest: beach cleanups, camp assistants, habitat restoration,  preschool assistant, graffiti removal, library  assistant, computer mentor, tutoring , meal server, food pantry stocker, ushering at events, art teacher, hospital aide, search dog training and more.

Go to the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County here or its list of organizations needing volunteers here.

Idea Jar... great fun for the Summer!

(BUILT IN) (Icons/Graphics) Jar.jpg    Idea jars help teach responsibility, foster family unity, and can be very useful in helping things get accomplished around the house. Take a jar and fill it with strip pieces of paper, each with a "to do" on it, better yet solicit ideas from each member of the family. Everyone draws from the jar themselves (usually works best with children ages four and older, but even two-year-olds can learn to chip in around the house - they can dust).

When the chores are done, bring out the Fun Jar!  These jars can be used once a week or once a month depending on your family's schedule. Just remember that consistency is key for it to be most effective.

Our New Event Calendar Transition

We have merged the Weekly Events Calendar with the Annual Events Calendar so that you may enjoy browsing one calendar for family friendly events.  Now you can sort by category and/or date to find the event that suits you and your family! We are VERY excited  about the new (Icons/Graphics) MapItGlobe.jpgMap feature that allows you to locate events with the click of a button. We're still re-entering times and dates from the weekly events to conform to the new format so check back frequently.  Enjoy! Tell us what you think of the NEW features! Events are updated daily. Know of a great event that you'd like to share? Post it on the calendar - it's easy!
