(Site Photos) FreshPrepTeens1.jpgHave you heard it yet,

"Mom, I'm Bored!"

We've hit the midpoint of glorious Summer, the point when you might hear "There's nothing to do" which means it's time to get creative so they won't get into trouble! Here's something fun.

We visited a kids/tween cooking class at the Culinary Center of Santa Cruz.  Chef(Site Photos) FreshPrepTeens2.jpg Neil was teaching them about the chemistry of eggs, what they do in a recipe and why.  Two of the boys were eating the delicious looking omelets they had just made.  Chef Neil had certain livelier kids right beside him and "buddies" placed at strategically opposite sides of the table while showing them how to make real mayonnaise.  While I was there the kids rotated cleanup duties.  One of them told me that when he cooked a meal at home he could get out of doing the dishes! Sounds fair!

Culinary Center of Santa Cruz owner Jody Lombardo has some wonderful cooking classes lined up for kids (adults too) in July and August. In her Sushi for Teens class July 25, ages 12-17, they will learn how to make California Rolls, Cucumber Rolls, Tuna Rolls, Shrimp Rolls and Kani Salad (Crab).   Sushi Lover's Classes, Intro and Advanced, sound delicious.  You have to be 15+ to take these classes.  What fun to do this with your teen!  Another class is called Fabulous Fresh Fruit Tarts for ages 13+, but a child 8-12 can come with an adult. Go to Culinary Center of SantaCruz to see details.  You will be thrilled at the classes you can take with notable guest chefs.

Not to leave out the moms and dads, Jody is offering a unique class:
