Each Community Editor will work with businesses and families within their local communities to help our site provide important information to thousands of local families.


You are motivated moms, dads, grandparents, friends who are looking for a flexible work schedule and can devote a minimum of 10 - 15 hours

per week.

We're safe in town, breathing a little smokey air, and hoping friends, friends' homes and pets will escape the fires.  For up to date information go to and if you want to help, a good place to start is the Santa Cruz Red Cross.  This is a short, sweet newsletter because we're going boogie-boarding with friends who've come down from the mandatory evacuation areas, that is as soon as the shark warnings come down.  Right now water sounds good to all of us!  We want you to know that we're working hard behind the scenes to bring you lots of Back to School information and tips!

8/15, 6-10pm, Open Gym / Parents Night out! Santa Cruz Sports Central. Ages 3-13. Safe gymnastics, games, trampoline, snacks & fun.  Call to reserve your spot as space is limited. ONLY $35, Pre-registration, member, and sibling discounts available


8/14 6:30pm and 8:30pm PAPA DOO RUN RUN "Santa Cruz" BEACH PARTY, Papa Doo Run Run returns to the Boardwalk for their 20th year to perform tunes from the Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, and many of your beach party favorites. The group, formed in Cupertino in 1965, has toured and recorded with the Beach Boys and from 1975 to 1990 served as the "celebrity house band" at Disneyland.

8/14, 7-9:30pm,Twilight Evening Cookout & Hike
, Gather family and friends this summer for an outdoor, twilight evening experience at Roaring Camp. Dine by the campfire on a hardy Prospector meal prepared in an old-fashion Dutch oven. After supper, embark on a 45-minute walking tour by flashlight led by a knowledgeable Eco-Ranger into the Redwood forest of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Your senses will feel the forest come alive at night! Meet back at the campfire for stargazing and a cowboy sing-along with warm peach cobbler, hot coffee and cider for dessert. It's old-fashioned family fun! Reservations required. Tickets are $25 per person.

8/15, 1-2:30pm, Fandango Dancing! Ages: 7-12, Celebrate through traditional Spanish song and dance as we fandango at the Mission! Everyone is invited to dance, sing, break a piñata, and celebrate in Californio Style!

8/16, Art At The Beach is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a Sunday afternoon in Capitola Village. Quality artists from around the area display their work at Esplanade Park overlooking Capitola Beach and the Monterey Bay, offering residents and visitors the opportunity to experience art and purchase work directly from the artists. You just may find that perfect piece of artwork you have been looking for.

Designed especially for new and novice paddlers, the Celebrity races are a chance to discover the excitement of outrigger canoe racing. Join the fun or cheer for friends in the race. The Polynesian Festival follows with a taste of the tropics- fresh flower leis, Hawaiian shaved ice, Maori face painting, print making and dance performances. Co-sponsored by Pu Pu O'Hawaii Outrigger Canoe Club.

Enjoy three stages of entertainment, carnival rides and games, pony rides, children's art and activities area, food from around the world and wine tasting. View the wonderful hand-made exhibits and experience our livestock shows up close and personal. You'll discover that the Fair is timeless fun for the young and young at heart.

August 19 6-8pm, The Silicon Valley Houserockers Rock & Soul, Esplanade Park. Bring a picnic supper and chairs to sit on either in the park or on the beach while enjoying the music filled sunset. A blanket and warm jackets are always a good idea as the summer weather can bring the fog.

We've got a fun and educational summer cooking camp for your child!
Our KID-Chef program is designed for kids 8-12 years old.

8/17-21, M-F, 9-12:30

Your child will learn about a variety of foods and cooking techniques they'll be able to duplicate in their own home kitchen for their families. Children will also learn the science of cooking during classes. See our daily activities below:

About our Instructor

(BUILT IN) (Icons/Graphics) ChefLady2.jpg     The Culinary Center of Santa Cruz is pleased to have Phyllis Endicott as the Chef Instructor for all of our Children and Teen Culinary Classes. In addition to her Chef experience, Phyllis is a science instructor and Santa Cruz area GATE instructor and teacher in the local elementary schools since 1992.

     Phyllis has been at the Quail Hollow Ranch for the past two years and is currently teaching chemistry and physics programs in their Parks and Recreation Department.

     A life long food enthusiast, Phyllis brings her experiences in Catering, Personal Chef Positions and  three years at Chaminade to classes with kids, tweens and teens. Phyllis has been teaching at the Culinary Center of Santa Cruz since 2008 and the kids just love her!
